This news isn’t surprising, given that Sony and Disney announced a deal back in 2021 to bring Spider-Man and other films to Disney+.
However, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is not on the list. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. The film’s story follows Miles Morales as he becomes the new Spider-Man and joins other Spider-People from various parallel universes to save his universe from Kingpin.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. The film is dedicated to the memories of the creators of Spider-Man, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, who both died in 2018.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is not available on popular video streaming services. You can’t stream it on Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, etc. Currently you can bur or rent it from Amazon, Google, Apple, etc.
This is because these movies are co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. If the movie is produced by Marvel Studios only then you can watch it on Disney+ without any problem, like another Spider-Man movie – Captain America: Civil War.

In April 2021, Sony signed a deal with Disney giving them access to their legacy content, including Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequels, to stream on Disney+ and Hulu and appear on Disney’s linear television networks. Disney’s access to Sony’s titles would come following their pay-one window on Netflix. The film became available on Disney+ in the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan on June 17, 2022 and on September 9, 2022 in Ireland, Latin America and Europe. Unlike in other countries, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t yet available on the Disney-owned streamer in the U.S. American fans will have to wait until 2024 to watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on Disney+.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, namely Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled for release in the United States on June 2, 2023.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes from a joint effort of directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. The movie will swing into theaters on June 2, featuring the return of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, among others.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is coming to Netflix approximately in December 2023. Sony signed a multiyear deal with Netflix back in 2014 for access to all of Sony Picture Animations movies, which include movies like the Emoji Movie and Hotel Transylvania 3. In 2021, Sony and Netflix signed a five-year deal that gave the latter exclusive first-pay-window U.S. streaming rights for Sony Pictures titles after their theatrical and home entertainment windows. Netflix subscribers can expect to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix six months after the film’s theatrical release, thus in December 2023.
Sony and Disney announced a deal in 2021 that gives the latter exclusive U.S. streaming and tv rights to Sony Pictures Entertainment’s features after the first pay tv window. The pact covers Sony’s new theatrical releases from 2022 to 2026, which includes the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as well as “a significant number of” the studio’s library titles, among them the Hotel Transylvania franchise and the original Spider-Verse.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is headed to Disney Plus, but it won’t be available right away. The movie is expected to arrive on the streaming platform around 2025. Before it can be shown on Disney Plus, there is a period called the pay-one window.
During this time, another streaming service, Netflix, has exclusive rights to distribute the movie. This window can last up to 18 months, which means it will be a while before Disney Plus subscribers can watch the highly anticipated sequel. That means new Sony films will hit theaters first, then paid rentals and purchases, then Netflix, and then finally head over to Disney platforms, possibly including Disney Plus.
Fans will have to be patient as they wait for the pay-one window to end and Netflix’s exclusive rights to expire. Once that happens, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will finally make its way to Disney Plus for everyone to enjoy.
However, we don’t know how long these Spider films will be available on Disney+. With Disney+ licensing more films and shows from other companies, we will continue to see titles removed from Disney+.
