Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, is co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It is the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and the 27th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed over $1.9 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film released by Sony Pictures. It is the seventh-highest grossing movie of all time and the highest-grossing film of 2021. The film received a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 94th Academy Awards.
The shortest answer is that Disney doesn’t exclusively own the movie – it’s co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing.
Back in April 2021, Disney and Sony Pictures did strike a deal to bring joint movies to Disney+ and Hulu after Netflix’s exclusive “first pay window” streaming rights, which is typically an 18 month window. But it only covers 2022 to 2026 film slate, after the release of No Way Home. This means that the giant blockbuster isn’t covered by it, so won’t automatically join Disney+.
Of course, there’s no saying that it won’t go to Disney+. After all, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) is available on Disney+ now.
That’s a little frustrating if you’re trying to do a complete MCU rewatch, we’ve got you covered with our huge MCU timeline guide.
In the United States, the film is available for fans to watch at any time on the Starz streaming platform. The Pay 1 window for the film’s availability on Starz lasts about 18 months. That’s why Disney+ subscribers will have to wait until late 2023 or early 2024 to be able to watch the film along with other Marvel titles.
