Tesla cars have a large touchscreen display that allows you to access various entertainment options, including music, podcasts, videos and games. But it’s always important to prioritize safety while operating a vehicle, and it’s recommended to use Tesla’s built-in entertainment systems only when parked or stopped in a safe location.

Tesla allows you to stream Netflix and other video streaming services while the car is in PARK. Here we will show you 2 ways to watch Netflix on Tesla online or offline.

How to stream Netflix on Tesla?

Netflix is available through the dashboard touch-screen display when the vehicle is parked. Use Theater app to play various video streaming services (such as Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, etc.) while parked. Available only if Tesla is connected to WiFi, or is equipped with premium connectivity and a cellular signal is available.

  1. Tap the Theater icon in the app launcher.
  2. Tap Netflix and log in your account.
  3. Find the video and start streaming.

How to watch Netflix videos on Tesla with Dashcam Viewer?

Tesla software update 2020.12.5 comes with a Dashcam Viewer, which lets Tesla owners watch recordings created by the on-board cameras right on the dashboard display, so they no longer have to turn to a computer to do the whole thing.

How to use Dashcam Viewer?

Watch saved Dashcam clips or Sentry Mode events directly from the touchscreen with the Dashcam Viewer. To launch, tap the Dashcam icon in the status bar and select “Launch Viewer” while the car is in PARK. To view saved clips and events stored on your USB drive, tap the Menu icon in the upper left corner of the viewer. Each video is organized by location, date and thumbnail for easy access.

How to Use Dashcam?

  1. Format a USB flash drive.
    • Insert the flash drive into the USB port and navigate to Controls > Safety > Format USB Drive. Your vehicle automatically formats the flash drive for you.
    • Format the flash drive on a computer. See USB Drive Requirements for Recording Videos for more information.
  2. Insert the USB flash drive into your vehicle’s USB port(Tesla recommends using the glovebox USB port, if equipped) to store and retrieve footage. Vehicles manufactured beginning approximately 2020 are equipped with a pre-formatted USB flash drive in the glove box.
  3. Enable Dashcam by touching Controls > Safety > Dashcam. Dashcam allows you to choose how and when footage is saved.
  4. Once Dashcam is enabled, you are free to drive. The Dashcam icon indicates when footage is saved.
  5. Once your desired footage is saved, view the clips on the touchscreen or a computer:
    • Touchscreen: Ensure your vehicle is in Park and touch the Dashcam icon in the app launcher. Videos are organized by timestamp. See Viewing Video Recordings for more information.
    • Computer: Insert the USB flash drive into a computer and navigate to the TeslaCam folder. Videos are organized by timestamp. See Viewing Video Recordings for more information.

However, someone has discovered that you can easily trick it to actually watch your very own videos and not just camera footage. Technically, what you have to do is delete one of the recordings and rename your custom videos or movies to seem like a genuine recording (using the deleted file’s name). Only MP4 files are supported, as this is the format that Tesla works with for camera recordings. So if you can download Netflix videos to MP4, you can then watch them on Tesla with Dashcam Viewer.
